Professor Wim H. de Jeu Visit Softmatter Group
October 10-26, at the invitation of Prof. Li Liangbin of the National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory. Honorary Professor, University of Eindhoven and professor Wim H. de Jeu from DWI – Leibniz Institute for Interactive Materials visited University of Science and Technology of China, and gave a three-week lecture to teachers and students about the basics and applications of X-rays, explain his own book "Basic X-ray Scattering for Soft Matter"

In the course of the lecture, Professor Wim tried to explain the basic principles of X-ray with concise language, combined with his years of scientific research and teaching experience in the field of soft matter X-ray research, taught us how to use X-ray as a research tool through a large number of practical examples.

During the lectures, teachers and students actively raised some confusion about X-rays and some practical problems in their own scientific research. Professor Wim answered them in detail.

A brief introduction to Professor Wim H. de Jeu:
Professor Wim H. de Jeu got his Ph.D. from Deft University of Technology in 1969. He has been engaged in the research of soft matter during the FOM Institute in Amsterdam, where he developed the X-ray method. He played an active role in various synchrotrons. Especially at ESRF (European Synchrotron Radiation Facility in Grenoble, France),and He is often invited as a special spokesperson for the International Science Conference.
Professor Wim H. de Jeu has published more than 160 papers, including more than 10 papers from top journals such as Nature, Science, and PRL. Those articles were cited more than 5,600 times in total and have an H factor of 44. In 2012, he was awarded the Frederiks Medal by the Russian Society of Liquid Crystals due to "The outstanding contributions in the field of liquid crystal physics", In 2018, he won the Alfred-Saupe Award from the German Liquid Crystal Association for his outstanding achievements in liquid crystal and soft matter science.
