On the afternoon of July 19, 2025, the SMG Innovation Salon lecture series, hosted by the Laboratory of the Anhui Provincial Engineering Research Center for Advanced Functional Polymer Films, was successfully held in the main lecture hall of Discipline Building 2 on the High-Tech Campus. The event specially invited Chen Wei, an outstanding alumnus of the laboratory and Vice President of Gotion High-Tech, to return to his alma mater and deliver a thematic report titled “Power Batteries: The Industrial Pulse of Corporate Strategy and Manufacturing as the Decisive Factor.” Faculty members and students from various schools, researchers, and industry professionals participated in the exchange.
Starting from the current landscape of the new energy industry, Chen Wei systematically elaborated on the key trends in the power battery industry in terms of technological routes, capacity deployment, and market competition. Drawing on Gotion High-Tech’s practical experience in corporate strategy formulation and global manufacturing layout, he pointed out that amid the accelerated scaling-up and internationalization of the industry, enterprises must not only focus on technological innovation and product iteration, but also build systematic capabilities in manufacturing processes, supply chain management, cost control, and sustainable development in order to gain the initiative in industry competition.

In his report, Chen Wei focused on how power battery enterprises can achieve strategic implementation through “winning through manufacturing.” He noted that the efficiency, consistency, intelligence, and green development level of the manufacturing process have become important benchmarks for measuring an enterprise’s core competitiveness, and are directly related to market penetration and brand reputation. At the same time, he emphasized the importance of strategic foresight and organizational coordination in responding to industry fluctuations and technological change, providing the audience with a thinking framework for understanding technological evolution and business logic from an industrial perspective.
During the interactive session, faculty members and students actively raised questions on topics such as trends in power battery technology, the impact of industrial policies, and talent capability requirements. Chen Wei responded to each question based on his own management practice and industry observations, leading to an enthusiastic and in-depth exchange.

This salon was another important SMG Innovation Salon event following last month’s theme of “value breakthrough for R&D professionals.” It continued the salon’s distinctive approach of drawing on alumni resources and connecting academia with industry, providing participants with a platform to engage with industrial frontiers and broaden their career perspectives. The laboratory will continue to promote such open and practice-oriented academic activities, fostering the deep integration of innovative thinking with industrial realities.
