From June 11 to 14, 2026, the Eighth International Symposium on Frontiers in Polymer Science was successfully held at the Chengdu Tianfu International Convention Center. Co-organized by Elsevier and Sichuan University, this conference marked the first time that the symposium series had been held in China since its launch in 2009. The event attracted nearly 400 participants from 20 countries and regions, including approximately 100 overseas delegates, bringing together a leading international academic community in the field of polymer science. The conference featured 9 plenary lectures and three parallel sessions, with a total of 18 keynote lectures, 84 oral presentations, and 257 poster presentations. The three parallel sessions focused respectively on the interdisciplinary themes of “Advanced Precision Synthesis,” “Dynamics and Non-Equilibrium Polymer Structure Physics,” and “Polymer Technologies for Addressing Societal Challenges in Energy and the Environment.”
Professor Chen Wei led members of his research group, including Sun Hao, Jia Dongmin, Huang Zheng, Guo Wenhao, Lei Zhouhang, Xue Heng, Fang Xingyue, Zhang Jiachen, and Luo Yu, to attend the conference. He also delivered an academic presentation entitled “Investigation of Polymer Deformation Mechanisms by In Situ NMR.” The presentation focused on the fundamental scientific issue of deformation mechanisms in polymer materials under external force fields, and highlighted the key challenge of revealing the relationship between chain conformation evolution at the molecular scale and macroscopic mechanical behavior. The report provided an in situ, real-time characterization approach spanning from the molecular chain scale to the macroscopic scale for the study of deformation behavior in polymer materials.
