On the morning of July 6, Liang Yanshun, Secretary of the CPC Anhui Provincial Committee, conducted an inspection in Hefei on scientific and technological innovation in nuclear fusion energy and presided over a symposium. He emphasized the need to thoroughly implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important expositions on scientific and technological innovation and the guiding principles of his important speech during his inspection tour of Anhui, to maintain strategic resolve, continue sustained research efforts, strive to seize the commanding heights in the development of nuclear fusion energy, and make greater contributions to achieving high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and strength for the country. Wang Qingxian, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Anhui Provincial Committee and Governor of Anhui Province, as well as provincial leaders Shan Xiangqian and Ren Qinghua, attended the event.
Recently, the “artificial sun” project at the Institute of Plasma Physics, Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, made new progress. The toroidal field superconducting magnet and the high-temperature superconducting central solenoid coil have successively completed development acceptance and full-parameter testing, with their comprehensive performance reaching the international forefront. Liang Yanshun, Wang Qingxian, and others visited the campus of the Comprehensive Research Facility for Key Systems of Fusion Reactor Main Machine to inspect and learn about the progress of research and development. They held in-depth exchanges with researchers, congratulated them on their achievements, and encouraged them to focus on national strategic needs, devote themselves to research, make persistent efforts, and strive to achieve more original breakthroughs.
Liang Yanshun then presided over a symposium, at which Li Jiangang, Wan Baonian, Song Yuntao, Qin Jinggang, Wu Yu, Li Liangbin, Hu Haomin, and others spoke in succession. Liang listened and took notes, engaging with the speakers from time to time. Regarding the opinions and suggestions put forward, he requested that Hefei Municipality and relevant provincial departments sort them out one by one, conduct in-depth studies, and promote their resolution.
Liang Yanshun pointed out that General Secretary Xi Jinping attaches great importance to and has high expectations for the development of nuclear fusion energy in Anhui. We must bear in mind his instructions, strengthen our sense of responsibility, gain a profound understanding of the global competitive landscape in nuclear fusion energy, reinforce the development of strategic scientific and technological capabilities, and press ahead with determination toward our goals. Efforts should be made to strengthen basic research, continuously advance breakthroughs in key and core technologies, boldly venture into “uncharted territory,” and consolidate and expand our advantages in original innovation. It is necessary to promote the deep integration of scientific and technological innovation with industrial innovation, make forward-looking plans for and develop future industries, improve the mechanism for generating spin-off results along the way, and accelerate the transformation of technologies into products, products into industries, and industries into scale. We must firmly uphold the principle that talent is the primary resource, strengthen the supporting and enabling role of research institutes, and systematically cultivate and introduce specialized talent. We should deepen scientific and technological exchanges with a more open mindset and measures, and expand the scope for cooperation.
