On July 7, 2026, the Engineering Center and Hubei Firsta Material Science and Technology Group Co., Ltd. formally signed a cooperation agreement at Firsta’s Yunmeng headquarters. Zhang Dong, President of Firsta Group, attended the signing ceremony together with company executives, Chen Jungen from the Engineering Center, Associate Researcher Gao Jianwei, and others.

The two sides will jointly carry out research and development on high-performance biodegradable BOPLA film for tobacco use. Focusing on current industry pain points such as the weak mechanical strength and poor water vapor barrier performance of biodegradable films on the market, the two parties will work together to tackle key technical challenges. They aim to develop an eco-friendly tobacco packaging film that can fully replace traditional BOPP film, while ensuring perfect compatibility with existing cigarette production processes.
This cooperation deeply integrates the university’s scientific research resources with the company’s industrialization platform, opening up a pathway for new materials to move from research and development to practical application. Based on an industry–university–research collaborative model, the two sides will pursue mutual benefit and win-win outcomes, and jointly promote the green and low-carbon transformation of the tobacco packaging industry.
